Introduction

What You Get

The "Magic Ad Genie" plugin for WordPress is an extremely easy to use ad or content creator that allows you to use WordPress shortcode to insert your ad or content into Pages and Posts with ease.

Combine Magic Ad Genie with a Link Cloaker or Link Rotator when you create your ad or custom content to enhance the abilities of the plugin features. With the plugin you also get a wide variety of graphics features to make your ad creations even more eye-popping and quick to draw every visitors notice.

When we say “content”, as opposed to “ads”, you can use the plugin to create a custom optin page which you can again use the shortcode option to insert that content in any number of Posts and Pages that you desire. The number of options for how you choose to use Magic Ad Genie is limitless, but entirely up to you.

Installing

Download the zipped Magic Ad Genie plugin to your computer. Log in to your WordPress site. Hover over the Plugins tab to expand, then click Add New.

Locate the zipped Magic Ad Genie plugin file, select it then click Open.

Your plugin will now be uploaded and installed. Your next step after installation is to click the Activate Plugin link.

Alternative Setup – FTP

If installing from WordPress does not work for your blog, you may also do it the old fashioned way by first unzipping the Magic Ad Genie plugin file to your computer. Open your FTP software and upload the entire “magic-ad-genie” folder to your WordPress plugin directory which will look like this file path inside your FTP software.

Once upload has completed, log in to WordPress admin, navigate to Plugins. Locate Magic Ad Genie and click Activate. Simply upload the plugin zip using the WP admin panel browser uploader and activate.

Upgrading

1. First BACK UP YOUR WORDPRESS DATABASE! We won’t take any responsibility for your data, you have to look after it yourself.

2. Deactivate the existing version of the plugin.

3. Use your FTP client to delete the existing plugin.

4. Unzip the new version and save the extracted folder somewhere you can find it.

5. Use your FTP client to upload the newly extracted folder to your /wp-content/plugins/ directory on your WordPress blog or website OR use the new plugin uploader to install the upgrade.

6. Reactivate the plugin.

Troubleshooting the Installation

If your blog or website displays with an error message when you activate the plugin or otherwise adversely affects your blog or website, then the first thing you should do is delete the plugin with your FTP client or using the delete function on the plugins page, and your blog or website will be restored to normal.

Usage

After activating the plugin, a new menu appears in the left menu titled Magic Ad Genie. You first need to create at least one ad. Do that by clicking Add New in this menu.

Write Your Ad Title

You will then see a familiar screen, much like your post or page editor screen. Start by entering a title for your ad. This is not seen by anyone but you.

Create Your Ad

Enter your ad copy in the visual editor. This works like the post or page editor familiar to you. You can add images and even change colors, headings and align your text here.

Graphical Additions

The plugin comes with some graphical additions to help call attention to your ad. You can add those by clicking on the Magic Ad Genie drop-down button.

Add Arrows

One of the options in the drop down is Arrows. Click that to add arrows.

Arrow Addition

A pop-up will appear with different types of graphical arrows for you to use. Select one and click Insert.

Aligning Arrows

Once you click insert, the arrow will be inserted into the visual editor. You can then click on it to choose your alignment.

Graphical Headings

You also have the option to add some graphical headings. Simply click on the Magic Ad Genie Graphics drop-down again and click Add Headings

Choose from the 6 options available and click Insert.

1. The graphical heading will be added to your visual editor. You can click on the image to align or even re-size it.

2. The next option is boxes. To use boxes, the best practice is to highlight the copy you want to be in the box first.

Once again, click the Magic Ad Genie button in your visual editor and click Add Boxes.

Choose the box you want to use then click Insert.

You won't see the box around the area you selected except when you choose to “View Ads”, so don't look to see the change in the editor in visual mode.

Clearing The Box

If you change your mind and don't want to use that box, you can always clear the style. Make sure you select ALL the content that is currently in the box then click the Remove formatting button.

Choose Another Style

Using the Magic Ad Genie button, choose Add Boxes and this time, select the box you want to use.

Publish Your Ad

Next, publish your ad like you would publish a normal post or page.

Add The Ad To Your Post

You can now use this ad in any post or page. In this example, we will go to All Posts to locate an existing post we'd like to put the ad in. You can also create a new post and put the ad there.

Edit The Post

Since we are adding the ad to an existing post, we click the post we want to put the ad in.

Place Your Cursor

Before including your ad in the post, make sure you place your cursor anywhere inside the content you want the ad to appear. We will be putting it at the bottom in this example.

Insert Ad Button

This time, in the visual editor, you will notice the button icon has changed slightly. Click this button.

In the pop-up, select the ad you want to use here, click Insert.

You will now see the special shortcode already created and entered into the post for you.

Publish or Update Your Post

When you are ready, publish or update your post as usual.

View Post

Now you are ready to view your post. Click View Post

Check Ad

Since we added the ad to the bottom of our post, we'll scroll to the bottom of the page and see it there. You can insert this same ad on multiple posts too. This makes updating your ads easier since you only have to go back to one spot to edit it and the changes appear on all posts you put this ad in.

Default Settings

The plugin also has a default ad setting. Once you have created at least one ad, you can go to Settings >> Magic Ad Genie

Choose Your Default Ad

1. Select a Default or Fall back Ad. This ad will be used if you didn't include an ad id in your shortcode or, for whatever reason, the ad you chosen fails.

2. Click Save.

Here's the code for a sample ad to give you an idea of how to create a custom ad:We included a Magic Ad Genie heading graphic too. The ad looks like this:

Plugin Troubleshooting

If you encounter the following message when you attempt to “View Ads”:

go to → Settings → Permalinks and note how you're Permalinks are set up,

then change your Permalinks setting to a different option, and Save that setting.

Now change your Permalinks setting back to it's original settings and Save that.

The “View Ads” option should be fixed now.
